U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.14%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Telecoms, Industrials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.14%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.04%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which rose 0.80% or 1.48 points to trade at 186.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 0.65% or 0.97 points to end at 150.62 and Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) was up 1.10% or 6.48 points to 597.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which fell 1.84% or 2.75 points to trade at 146.62 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) declined 1.47% or 6.11 points to end at 409.96 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was down 1.02% or 0.24 points to 23.22.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were CrowdStrike Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CRWD) which rose 5.58% to 314.99, Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was up 3.92% to settle at 105.69 and The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which gained 4.43% to close at 26.39.

The worst performers were First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was down 9.29% to 205.04 in late trade, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which lost 5.82% to settle at 99.19 and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was down 4.01% to 164.17 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were JetAI Inc (NASDAQ:JTAI) which fell 11.77% to 0.08, BloomZ Inc (NASDAQ:BLMZ) which was up 87.36% to settle at 1.34 and XChange TECINC DRC (NASDAQ:XHG) which gained 39.39% to close at 0.25.

The worst performers were Gritstone Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:GRTS) which was down 68.70% to 0.06 in late trade, Inno Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:INHD) which gained 608.82% to settle at 4.82 and Momentus Inc (NASDAQ:MNTS) which was down 40.23% to 0.63 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1575 to 1185 and 114 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2005 fell and 1265 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged.

Shares in Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.84% or 2.75 to 146.62. Shares in JetAI Inc (NASDAQ:JTAI) fell to all time lows; down 11.77% or 0.01 to 0.08. Shares in Gritstone Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:GRTS) fell to 5-year lows; down 68.70% or 0.14 to 0.06.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.34% to 20.93.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.87% or 22.80 to $2,648.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.25% or 2.38 to hit $75.62 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 3.30% or 2.53 to trade at $79.11 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.48% to 148.57.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 102.64.
